THAT WORK! So what did I do? I began reviewing every remedy and then decided to try them all. Yes, ALL! I am a big believer in natural remedies, and the success did not leave me astounded. Here are the runny nose home remedies I tried, jot them down, for they are sure to help you on a gloomy day.

Home Remedies for Runny Nose

1. Salt Water:

Ever wondered why your doc prescribes you with saline drops when you either have a runny or stuffed nose? Salt water will thin down the mucus, thus making it easier for the body to expel it quicker. It also helps clear the nasal passages of any irritants. While you can always use saline drops, why spend that money? You can make saline water at your very home! Just mix one half teaspoon of salt in two warm cups of water and use a dropper to administer it into your nose. Do this a few times in a day, till you find relief.

2. Mustard Oil:

Grab a bottle of mustard oil from the supermarket! Heat a tablespoon of it in a wok until it’s a tad bit warm and gently put in a few drops of it into your nostrils. The oil is enriched with antibiotic, antihistamine, and antiviral properties that will get to work in no time. It will work at both eliminating the cold and relieving the symptoms of a runny nose. Any of the oil left, once your runny nose is abated? Store it away for future use, or simply lace your salads for an exotic flavor!

3. Ginger:

We all know ginger has antioxidants that can cure a myriad of ailments. But did you know that it also has antiviral and antifungal properties that get to the root and banish a runny nose? Grate some ginger and add a pinch of salt and chomp away. Yes, it will sting, but you will be rid of that bothersome runny nose in just a few days! Trust me when I say that this works faster than most over the counter drugs.

4. Turmeric:

An antidote for cuts and wounds, turmeric also works wonders at putting a halt to that leaky nose. A small pinch of turmeric powder is loaded with antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and even antioxidant properties. That is a lot for just a pinch, ain’t it? Soak just one teaspoon of freshly ground turmeric powder in a cup of linseed oil, and inhale the smoke emitted. This will loosen the mucus and make you feel less irritable!

5. Garlic:

Yikes, the stinky garlic found its way to a list again! But do not twitch your nose or turn your face away from this one! Chewing a clove of garlic, no matter how pungent it tastes, will warm up your body and give you immense relief from a runny nose.

6. Eucalyptus Oil:

A fragrance that is addicting! Who can possibly say no to this aromatic oil? Just dab a few drops of eucalyptus oil on a hanky and inhale it through the day to appease the symptoms of a cold and runny nose.

7. Cayenne Pepper:

Spicy, yes, but is it effective? YES, YES and a big YES! An antihistamine, cayenne pepper is perhaps one of the best home remedies to stop runny nose. This spice will increase the nasal discharge so that your body can flush out all the mucus and toxins that brought you the cold in the first place. Once the mucus is gone, you will feel lighter and brighter! Simply include this spice in all your dishes for a quick recovery.

8. Basil:

This herb is said to be so potent, that it is used to heal a myriad of ailments. Chew on a few fresh leaves each morning to warm up your body and dispel the mucus. You could also boil 10 basil leaves with 6 cloves in water, add some sugar and drink this concoction once in the morning, and once before you call it a day, to be free of a runny nose.

9. Sesame Seeds:

Roast some sesame seeds and mix some jaggery and eat it up. This simple remedy is sure to help you with that itchy, sore, and runny nose.

10. Miracle Tea:

It doesn’t taste yucky! Mild and pleasant, a concoction of ½ tsp garlic, 1 tsp honey, 1 tbsp lemon juice, ½ tsp cinnamon powder, ½ tsp ginger and a tea bag of orange, is the best remedy to treat a runny nose. Throw all these ingredients in a cup of water and boil or microwave. Sip it through the day. This hot mixture will control your runny nose in just 30 minutes.
