10 Effective Home Remedies For Phlegm

Phlegm, or mucus, is often one of the most common medical conditions that can be triggered by simple allergens or dust or due to bacterial and viral infections. Mucus is a thick fluid, formed when the body is fighting off any foreign material or organism.

2. Eucalyptus Oil:

One of the most potent and oldest phlegm home remedies, Eucalyptus oil should be mixed with carrier oils like coconut oil and applied to the chest area. Eucalyptus oil should not be applied directly to the skin and must never be swallowed. A rub with this oil may trigger some bouts of coughing, to loosen and expel the phlegm from your system.

3. Salt Water Gargle:

Simply add a tablespoon of salt to a glass of warm water. Lightly tilt your head backward and gargle with this salt water. Make sure you don’t swallow this! The phlegm will usually loosen within a few minutes of gargling.

4. Pepper and Turmeric:

7. Grapes:

Here’s another delicious way to battle phlegm! Grapes contain compounds that are expectorant in nature, which means they soothe the lungs and are useful for unclogging the phlegm. Add a spoon of honey to boost the healing power of a glass of grape juice instead of sweetening it with sugar.

8. Lemon: 

To clear your system of phlegm, simply cut a thick slice of lemon and sprinkle some salt and pepper on it. Suck on this slice for quick relief. An easy phlegm remedy!

Using onion for treating phlegm may sound strange, but the healing properties of this bulb as a remedy for cough and cold have been harnessed in natural medicine since olden times. To a washed and finely chopped onion, add two big spoons of sugar and let it stand for at least half an hour. This mixture will turn liquid- like.
