7 HERBAL REMEDIES FOR LOWERING CHOLESTEROL

The problem of cholesterol is also referred to as “Hypercholesterolemia” or “Hyperlipidemia”. High cholesterol can result in serious health related problems. Garlic

Alfalfa



Alfalfa is another herbal remedy for dealing with the problem of high cholesterol level. Use of this herb for a period of 7 to 8 weeks can provide effective results. It is important to note that excessive consumption of alfalfa can damage red blood cells. Therefore, an individual is required to consume alfalfa in accordance with the instructions of his/her health consultant.

Artichoke Leaf



An individual can use the extract of artichoke leaf to deal with the problem of high cholesterol level. It is interesting to note that the consumption of this herb may not result in any serious side effects.However, an individual suffering from the problem of gallstones should avoid consumption of this extract. Artichoke leaf extract also improves digestion and helps in the removal of toxins such as LDL cholesterol from the body.

Red Yeast Rice



One of the most effective herbal remedies for lowering cholesterol level is red yeast rice. This herb contains monacolins. It is interesting to note that this compound is used in the preparation of cholesterol lowering medicines. Consumption of red yeast rice can also help in reducing the high cholesterol level. Use of this herb should be avoided by pregnant or breastfeeding women. Further, red yeast rice should not be used by individuals taking the lovastatin drug.

Green Tea

Green tea can also be used to lower the cholesterol level. Drinking green tea on a regular basis can help in removing the harmful cholesterol from the body.Further, it can enhance the good cholesterol level. This remedy can also be used in other forms such as green tea extract, capsule or powder.



Turmeric

The problem of high cholesterol level may also be treated with the use of turmeric. Consumption of turmeric helps in stimulating the excretion of cholesterol. It is interesting to note that turmeric also helps in preventing the absorption of cholesterol through the intestines.




Guggul

Guggul can be used in the treatment of high cholesterol. Intake of guggul can help in lowering the bad cholesterol level by taking it out of the blood stream.Guggul also helps in raising the good cholesterol level. An individual can consume a combination of guggul and garlic (as a part of daily food items) to obtain more effective results.
