6 BEST HERBAL REMEDIES FOR EDEMA

Edema is a condition characterized by swelling in the legs, ankles, hands or any other part of your body. This swelling can occur on account of fluid retention in the spaces located between the cells of the soft tissues found in your body.
Excess consumption of salt, pregnancy, immobility, certain medications or hormonal changesmay cause edema. However, there are several herbs that can help treat mild to moderate symptoms of edema.

EFFECTIVE HERBAL REMEDIES FOR EDEMA

Horsetail

Horsetail is a diuretic herb that promotes urine production in your body. This in turn lowers the rate of fluid retention in patients suffering from edema. Horsetail extract is available in the form of tinctures and supplements at local health stores.

Dandelion

The leaves, flowers and root of a dandelion plant are used for treating edema. Dandelion is a herb with diuretic properties that promotes excretion of excessive fluid from your body. Getting rid of extra fluid from the body can cause a fall in potassium levels. However, dandelion is rich in potassium. So it replenishes any potassium that may be lost, in addition to treating edema. Prepare dandelion tea by steeping one teaspoon of fresh dandelion leaves in a cup of boiling water. Drink two cups of this tea every day for quick results.

Parsley

The seeds and roots of parsley are used as a herbal medicine to help treat edema. Parsley is an effective diuretic that is also rich in potassium. Prepare a tea by boiling one teaspoon parsley seeds in one cup of water. Allow this to simmer for ten minutes. Let it cool for some time. Drink this concoction every day to fight edema. Note that parsley must not be consumed if you are pregnant, as this has uterus stimulating properties.

Burdock Root

Burdock root relieves swelling caused by edema. Prepare burdock root tea by boiling 2 teaspoons of the powdered dried root in a cup of water. Consume this tea several times a day to get rid of edema. You can also use this tea as a foot soak for 15 minutes, in case you have edema in your feet.

Chickweed

The green succulent, edible parts of chickweed are used to treat edema. Chickweed is a herb that has demulcent and diuretic properties. This herb is known to prevent fluid retention in the body, avoiding edema. It can be used both internally as well as externally. For internal use, boil two tablespoons of fresh chickweed leaves in a cup of water to make some tea. Drink this daily. You can also make a fine paste of the leaves and apply topically on the affected area for relief from edema.

Apple Cider Vinegar

This is an effective solution for treating mild symptoms of edema. Apple cider vinegar is a safe diuretic that prevents fluid retention in your body without any side effects. Mix two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in one glass of water and drink it for quick relief from edema. In case your symptoms persist for more than seven days, consult a medical practitioner immediately.
