We all love to see our kids sprint on the race track, don’t we? The pride that comes with seeing your child cut across that red ribbon, is overwhelming. If your child is an athlete, tendonitis is not a new term for you! Tendonitis is common, but not restricted to those who are involved in athletic activities. If tendonitis is troubling you, you can take away much of the pain without toting up long medical bills, using these simple tendonitis home remedies.
Home Remedies for Tendonitis
1. Ice Pack:
It’s better to start with the simplest remedy first, and in case of tendonitis, that is an ice pack. Ice pack reduces inflammation and swelling. All you need to do is put some ice in a ziplock bag, wrap it in a towel and put it on the affected area. You can also use a bag of frozen peas and vegetables instead of ice.
2. Olive Oil:
This is another easy home remedy for tendonitis. Rubbing olive oil gently on the affected area will reduce risk of inflammation and give you relief from the excruciating pain. Massaging the oil twice a day for ten minutes can do wonders to the tendonitis affected tissues. Mustard and sesame oil can also be used for massaging.
3. Carbonated Water:
This is kind of a weird but a very effective remedy for tendonitis affected feet. Soak your feet in carbonated water (not soda or any sugary beverage) for fifteen minutes, twice a day. It makes your feet less prone to inflammation. You can also drink carbonated water to expedite the healing.
4. Epsom Salt:
Just like carbonated salt, soaking your tendonitis affected feet in warm Epsom salt water is a very effective remedy. The magnesium sulphate present in the salt helps replacing the lost magnesium in the foot. It causes a little dryness, so be sure to apply moisturizer after soaking.
5. Chickweed:
This herb, rich in nutrients like minerals and vitamins, is known to reduce inflammation, tenderness, pain and stiffness – all symptoms associated with tendonitis. You can make a fresh paste of the herb and apply it on the affected area and then wash off when dried. You can also drink an infusion of chickweed in tea.
6. Vinegar:
Vinegar wraps are quite effective when you have tendonitis, which causes a lot of pain and inflammation. You can add vinegar to water, in a 1:1 ratio, wet a towel in the solution and wrap it around the affected area. You can alternate between cold and hot wraps (by using cold and hot water) for better results.
7. Flour:
Having flour during tendonitis is a strict no-no as it aggravates inflammation, but flour can be used as a treatment too. Make a loose paste of flour and white wine, apply to the sore area and leave it for half an hour before washing off. Doing this a few times every day can reduce pain and speed up healing.
8. Cabbage Leaves:
This is another whacky but time tested tendonitis remedy. You can soak the cabbage leaves in water for half an hour and press them on to the affected area, using a towel or handkerchief to wrap, hold them in place for as long as you can. Doing this for a couple of days can reduce inflammation.
9. Sage:
This herb has a lot of remedial properties that can be used to heal tendonitis. Crush some fresh sage in your palms and simmer them with apple cider for five minutes. Soaking a towel in this warm solution, apply it to the sore areas for relief.
10. Cayenne Pepper:
Cayenne contains a lot of capsaicin, which relieves pain. You can soak it in warm water and keep your feet in it for ten minutes. You can even sprinkle some onto a cloth and press it gently on the affected area for some time, but don’t forget to rinse with cold water afterwards.
Did you ever think cabbage of all things could come to your rescue in treating tendonitis? Now, you know! Try these simple home remedies the next time you or your child feels excruciating pain, you will be baffled at how easily they alleviate the symptoms and reduce the pain!
11. Asparagus
Asparagus works as a natural diuretic, helping flush out excess fluid from your system. Reducing excess fluid will help relieve the pain, swelling and inflammation.
When suffering from foot tendonitis, you must regularly eat fresh asparagus. You can also steam two or three fresh asparagus and eat them. Along with asparagus, eat fresh fish and yogurt in order to deal with bloated and swollen feet.
