5 HERBAL REMEDIES FOR INCONTINENCE

Incontinence is an embarrassing problem and uncomfortable medical condition to deal with. It results in loss of control over the voluntary muscles present in the bladder causing leakage of urine. Incontinence can also be caused by weak muscles of the urinary sphincter and the pelvis.

USEFUL HERBAL REMEDIES FOR INCONTINENCE

Cornsilk



Cornsilk is the golden grass-like threads found on the outer part of the corn kernels. Many of us are not aware that the cornsilk is used in preparation of many herbal medications meant for urinary tract disorders including incontinence and UTI. Gather two tablespoons of cornsilk and add them to two cups of boiling water. Boil for 10 minutes and then steep for 15 minutes. Strain and drink the cornsilk tea 2-3 times a day for treating incontinence.

Dandelion



Dandelion is a nutritional as well as medicinal herb that has been successfully used in the treatment of incontinence. It is a natural diuretic and gets rid of water retention.It helps incontinence by ensuring that the extra fluids are passed out from the body in time. As the bladder fills with large amounts of fluid you are more aware of the pressure on the bladder and this greatly helps avoid leakage of urine. Drink 3 cups of dandelion tea daily for treating incontinence.

Horsetail



Horsetail, or bottlebrush, is a medicinal herb used for treating various problems especially that of edema and kidney stones. It is a natural astringent and can be used for treating UTI and related problems.The consumption of the herb is known to strengthen the connective tissues of the bladder leading to strengthening of the muscles of the organ. This treats incontinence to a large extent since you have better control over your bladder muscle snow. Take up to 6ml of horsetail every day in tea form.

Lemon Balm

Lemon balm belongs to mint family and is a famous herbal tonic that can be used for treating many problems including stress, anxiety and tension. The herb has a calming effect on the nerves and is used primarily for treating disorders of the central nervous system.It can also be used for treating incontinence if the condition is due to nervousness and stress. Prepare fresh lemon balm tea by boiling the leaves of the herb and then allowing them to steep in the hot water for 20 minutes. Drink three cups of the tea daily to cure incontinence.



Cranberry

Fresh juice of cranberry is used in treating many disorders of the urinary tract system including UTI. Cranberry has astringent and antiseptic properties that help in the successful removal of infectious micro-organism from the urinary tract.It helps relieve certain symptoms of incontinence as well and can be given to young children also since it has no side effects. Drink two glasses of fresh and undiluted cranberry juice daily or take 300-400 mg of cranberry extract every day for treating incontinence.
