Dandruff can be dry and flaky or just icky and sticky, causing severe itchiness and dryness of the scalp. The causes of dandruff can range from the change of season, having a dry or oily skin, not drying the hair properly, not shampooing the hair properly or not rinsing out the shampoo and conditioner properly, an improper diet or stress. Whatever the cause may be, the appearance of dandruff does not look appealing.
Vinegar For Dandruff
You can use vinegar to reduce the intensity of dandruff. I have listed a couple of quick DIY remedies that will help reduce the intensity of dandruff and keep the itching at bay with regular usage.
1. The Vinegar Massage: 1
Take 3 tablespoons of vinegar and massage onto the scalp only, not the entire hair length because you will just end up drying it. Massage gently and leave it on for about 10 minutes. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo and follow it up with a conditioner. Plain old apple cider vinegar for dandruff itself is quite an effective treatment.
2. The Vinegar Massage: 2
Add 3 drops of tea tree oil to about 3 tablespoons of vinegar. Tea tree oil acts like a natural antiseptic and with a regular massage of this combination, you will notice a significant reduction in the appearance of dandruff. You can also add a drop of the tea tree oil to the shampoo that you are using for effective results.
3. The Apple Cider Rinse:
Use vinegar as a final Rinse Mix: one part of apple cider vinegar to 3 parts water. Shampoo your hair with a mild SLS free shampoo and then rise your hair with this mixture. Leave it on for about 2 minutes and massage your hair gently and wash it off. Avoid getting this rinse in your eyes as it can sting your eyes.
Note: If you don’t have apple cider vinegar, use the white vinegar.
4. Chamomile tea and Vinegar rinse:
Mix about a tablespoon of white vinegar with 200 ml chamomile tea (don’t add milk to the tea). The tea will help reducing the smell of vinegar and when you use the tea, you will treat your hair as well. Chamomile is very good conditioner for the hair. The blend of chamomile tea and vinegar should be used as a rinse. Leave it on for about 5 minutes and wash your hair thoroughly with water.
5. Vinegar and Aspirin rinse:
Mix 1 cup apple cider vinegar with about 3 crushed tablets of aspirin. Use this as a dandruff rinse by applying on wet hair post shampooing your hair. Leave it for at least 5 minutes and rinse your hair thoroughly. Follow up with a mild conditioner and rinse. Dry your hair thoroughly.
