Gum pain can be caused by a variety of factors. Your gums may be inflamed due to bacterial, viral or fungal infection and that can cause gum pain. Your gums may also be inflamed due to deposit of plaque, abuse of medicine, or something else. You may have developed a sore or abscess on the gum which is contributing to the pain. You may also haveinflammation of the attachment fibers of the teeth.
Whatever be the precipitating factor, gum pain can be quite discomforting. Eating will become disturbed and the throbbing or continuous pain will always divert your attention from your task. Gum pain can be alleviated with antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medicines and washing the mouth with salted warm water. But there are some herbal remedies too. Let us discuss a few herbs that are beneficial for treating gum pain.

Aloe Vera

The aloe vera gel has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory actions. Moreover it has the ability to boost your immune strength. It can be used to treat bacterial infections as well as to heal wounds.

So take some fresh aloe gel and apply it directly on the inflamed gum so as to cover the entire area with aloe vera. You can also use aloe vera mouthwash. It is better to use fresh aloe vera to this effect.

Clove

Clove oil has been used since ancient times to treat problems of teeth, especially tooth ache. Clove contains essential oils which are potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic in nature.

It also has antiseptic properties. So use some clove oil to sanitize the area, dull the pain and reduce the inflammation. This will bring down the gum pain.

Goldenseal root has been used for centuries to treat various infections owing to its antibacterial and antimicrobial effect. It also stops bleeding.

 So with goldenseal root you can kill the bacteria or the microorganisms responsible for infection and also stop bleeding, if there is any. For this purpose you can use goldenseal extract that is available commercially.

Calendula

Calendula has the power to heal soft tissue and stop bleeding. It is very useful in healing soft tissue ulcers and lesions caused by bacterial, viral or fungal infections. It is anti-inflammatory in nature and helps in skin regeneration.

So make some calendula tea daily and use it as a mouthwash to rinse the painful areas. This will give you considerable relief from the pain. You can also get herbal extracts of calendula which are available over the counter.

Belladonna

This herb has been found to be of specific use when the pain is throbbing in nature. A swollen gum with a throbbing pain emanating from deep inside the gum can be very well treated with belladonna. So use belladonna extract with a cotton swab on the swollen area.

Arnica

This herb has perhaps the widest usage in treating pain and inflammation. It is used extensively in homeopathy. It relieves swelling and inflammation due to its property of drawing water out of swelling and acting against inflammation.
