Home Remedies for Intestinal Worms
1. Garlic:
This is one of the most reliable and time tested remedies for treating itching of the rectum due to intestinal worms. Make a paste of raw garlic and Vaseline and apply around the region. This kills the eggs and reduces the itch. If three cloves of garlic are eaten every day, its anti-fungal property also helps in getting rid of the worms.
2. Papaya:
Papain is an enzyme found in raw papaya, which destroys roundworms. Grate raw papaya to extract its juice and drink a tablespoon of it with equal parts of honey and water. Two hours after this, drink 250 ml of milk with 30 ml of castor oil. This is an excellent remedy for little children suffering from worms. The carpaine enzyme in papaya seeds help too and you can eat the ground seeds with milk or water,
3. Coconut:
You can simply eat a tablespoon of grated coconut every morning during breakfast to reduce the problem of intestinal worms. Drink 30 ml of castors oil and 375 ml of milk three hours after eating the coconut.
4. Goldenseal:
This herb has a compound called berberine, which is toxic to Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lambia and Plasmodium- all of which are kinds of intestinal worms. Boil it in water and steep before drinking the cooled liquid.
5. Pomegranate:
Pomegranate bark helps in killing intestinal worms, thanks to its toxic (to worms not humans!) properties. This is a great remedy for intestinal worms. Simply boil the bark in water and let it steep. Drink the cooled concoction thrice a day for relief.
6. Black Walnut:
Drinking the concentrated juice of unripe hulls of black walnut helps in getting rid of intestinal worms. They are mostly used in cases of ringworm.
7. Pumpkin Seed:
Pumpkin seeds help in killing tapeworms and roundworms. You can either chew the seeds raw or make a powder of the seeds and mix with juice. After a few hours, take a dose of laxative to cleanse your digestive tracts.
8. Wormseed:
Wormseed is an age old remedy for killing roundworms, tapeworms, and hookworms. As the concentrated oil of wormseed is too strong to be ingested, infusing the herb in tea is recommended.
9. Grapefruit Seed Extract:
This is another intestinal worm remedies found in most health food stores in liquid form. Its anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties help in fighting intestinal worms.
10. Wormwood:
Wormwood is another herb that has been used to treat intestinal worms for ages. It has been scientifically shown to kill or disable Ascaris lumbricoides, Plasmodium, Schistosoma mansoni and Giardia. The herb contains sesquiterpene lactones – a group of chemicals that kill or weaken the bacteria. It can be ingested as an infusion in tea, as diluted liquid extract, capsules or supplements. The pure, raw oil should not be taken as it is toxic.
Apart from this, be careful of what you eat. Unhygienic food, fruits and vegetables that have not been properly washed can lead to worms. Eat plenty of anti-parasitic food like blackberries, pineapple, cabbage, almond, and pumpkin seeds. Eat plenty of carrots, sweet potatoes and squash that boost your immune system. Eat a fiber rich diet consisting of flax seeds, beetroot and such to cleanse your system. Probiotics like those found in dairy yoghurt help in keeping worms at bay.
