Spices to boost brainpower
Turmeric
It is believed that turmeric aids to sharp our brain. It consists of a chemical named curcumin, which is essential for the reduction of plaques in the brain. With the increase in the level of plaque in the brain results for the Alzheimer’s disease. Turmeric also helps to slow down the Alzheimer’s disease with its anti-oxidant properties.
The regular consumption of turmeric encompassed food protects the brain from damage occurs due to alcohol.
 Black pepper
Piperine is a pungent compound present in the black pepper and other Piperaceaefamily, it helps to increase the beta-endorphins in the brain and for boosting up the cognitive function.The neurotransmitter properties of beta-endorphins stimulates the mood and promotes a feeling of relaxation. It lifts up the mood by preventing an enzyme that breaks the serotonin.  Researchers believe that black pepper aids in preventing and treating the Parkinson’s disease as well because piperine inhibits an enzyme that degrades dopamine.
Cinnamon
According to a study published on Alzheimer’s disease, cinnamon have the compounds which can prevent the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. The compounds cinnamaldehyde and epicatechin helps for the proper functioning of tau proteins, when they become defective it leads to dementias such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Another study showed that, the specific compound present in the cinnamon protects the brain from swelling, which it helps to reduce the brain problems like brain injury and brain stroke. In many cases swelling leads to neuronal injury also.
Nutmeg
A special compound named myristicin present in the nutmeg helps to make the brain sharp and to stimulate its activity. It restricts an enzyme which is promoting Alzheimer’s disease. Nutmeg decreases stress and fatigue and improves the memory.
Always consume it in a limited amount, you can use a pinch of nutmeg powder or two of freshly grounded nutmeg in a day. The intake of nutmeg more than the moderate amount leads to vomiting, nausea, palpilation, euphoria and hallucinations.
Sage
Add sage to your diet to increase the functioning of brain, it is also believed to boost the memory recall. It promotes the production of an anti-aging antioxidant glutathione, which helps in treating the neurological problems like autism, Alzheimer’s and so on.
In addition to the above, some compounds present in the sage inhibits the breakdown of a neurotransmitter – acetylcholine, which is linked with learning and memory recall.
One can add sage to soups, salads and stews in good amounts to increase the cognitive function and to boost the brain.
Cloves
With the presence of anti-oxidant properties cloves helps to reduce the oxidative stress.  It also contains phenol compounds which helps to flush out the toxins and to foster cellular health.
